A luxury floating hotel is coming to London’s Royal Docks later this year. The hotel which was previously moored in Amsterdam will be in Royal Victoria Dock for up to five years.

The Good Hotel is the idea of entrepreneur Marten Dresen and it is much more than simply a hotel. The business is set up as a social enterprise business whereby all its profits are put back into programmes to get long term unemployed people into work.

In the past 12 months the company has taken on board over 100 unemployed people in Amsterdam who are now working in the hospitality industry. The same model will be applied in the Royal Docks with an aim to offer new opportunities to unemployed people in Newham.

The award winning 148-room hotel experience is described as “designed with an eye for detail, reflecting the local area and challenging convention. It combines custom designs, a bed you want to take home, brilliant coffee and locally sourced ingredients in a great restaurant with genuine service”. The ‘Living Room’ will bring the dock a large new meeting space for local people and visitors to enjoy.

A public garden will be created on the roof of the hotel and it will also provide meeting spaces, a spa salon and gym facilities.
